The Monumenta Serica Institute publishes studies on Chinese culture. In cooperation with Chinese and Western scholars it promotes a deeper understanding of China in the academic world. To further this aim the institute holds or co-organizes various conferences and exhibitions on different sinological topics.
The non-profit institute is maintained by the Society of the Divine Word (S.V.D.) and located in Sankt Augustin, near Bonn and Cologne, in Germany. It houses an editorial office, a reading room and a reference library. The research facilities are open for experts and students alike.
Publications of the instiute include the sinological journal Monumenta Serica. Journal of Oriental Studies, and two book series, the Monumenta Serica Monograph Series and the Collectanea Serica. These publications include all relevant fields of the study of Chinese culture: philosophy, religions, history, language, literature, archaeology, and art. In the monograph series, special attention is given to the history of Christianity in China. Languages of publications are English, German, French, and Chinese.
