Abstract

As part of the series of various events celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Society of the Divine Word, the Polish Province organized a one-day symposium at the Department of Missiology of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw to look back at the intellectual apostolate of the S.V.D. members. As China was the S.V.D.’s first mission country, the Monumenta Serica Institute (MSI) and its journal Monumenta Serica could not be missing at the symposium. Incidentally, the journal also celebrates the ninetieth anniversary of its foundation this year. The presentation of Fr. Wesołowski S.V.D. was similar in content to his contribution in Chinese at a conference in Valencia (Spain) on 26 September 2024. To date, 41 Sinologists from all over the world and 22 missionaries of the Society of the Divine Word, most of them also being academically trained Sinologists, have participated directly or indirectly in the work and mission of MSI. Fr. Wesołowski S.V.D. presented 15 of these S.V.D. missionaries in chronological order.
